What is Amanita Muscaria?

Amanita muscaria, also known as the fly agaric, is a striking and iconic mushroom characterized by its bright red cap adorned with white spots. It is found in various parts of the world, particularly in northern regions with coniferous forests. The mushroom contains a psychoactive compound named muscimol. Despite its unique appearance and historical use in some cultures for shamanic practices, the mushroom can be toxic and should not be ingested without proper knowledge and caution.

Is Muscimol a Controlled Substance?

The Federal government of the United States does not classify either Amanita muscaria or muscimol as controlled substances. As a result, cultivation, possession, and distribution of these substances are not subject to regulation by the United States Federal Government.

However, Amanita Muscaria mushrooms are prohibited in several countries outside the U.S., including Australia, Romania, The Netherlands, and Thailand. In Australia, muscimol is categorized as a Schedule 9 drug, while hallucinogenic mushrooms in Thailand fall under Category 5 drugs.

On the other hand, these mushrooms remain legal in Sweden, Ireland, Mexico, Ukraine, and Russia, with no specific regulations governing their use or possession.

Is Amanita Muscaria A Psychedelic Mushroom?

Amanita muscaria is considered psychedelic due to the presence of psychoactive compounds in its composition. The primary psychoactive substance found in this mushroom is muscimol. When ingested, these compounds affect the central nervous system and can lead to a change in consciousness.

Can Fly Agaric Be Used For Medical Or Therapeutic Use?

THCA stands for tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. It is a naturally occurring compound found in cannabis plants, specifically in the trichomes, which are the resin glands of the plant. THCA is the precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the primary psychoactive compound responsible for the “high” associated with cannabis use.

In its raw form, THCA does not have psychoactive effects. However, when cannabis is heated or decarboxylated (a process that involves applying heat to convert THCA into THC), it loses a carboxyl group and is transformed into THC. This conversion can occur through smoking, vaporizing, or baking the cannabis plant material.

THCA itself has shown potential therapeutic benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties, neuroprotective effects, and potential anti-cancer properties. However, more research is needed to fully understand its medicinal potential and how it interacts with the human body.

CBD products typically fall into three different categories; full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate. These categories are important for the public to know due to the unfortunate fact that firms typically test for THC. Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD products that are hemp derived and that contain up to 0.3% THC are allowed to be sold to the public without a medical marijuana card.  This is what makes each kind of product unique:

• Full-spectrum CBD products contain all of the naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant, including CBD, THC, other cannabinoids, and terpenes. These products can provide a more comprehensive range of potential health benefits but may also contain THC, which can cause psychoactive effects and may not be legal in some states or countries.
• Broad-spectrum CBD products are similar to full-spectrum products in that they contain multiple cannabinoids and terpenes, but they typically have the THC removed. This makes them a good option for those who want the potential benefits of multiple compounds in the cannabis plant without any THC.
• CBD isolate products contain only pure CBD, with all other compounds removed. These products are the most refined and typically have no flavor or aroma, making them a good choice for those who prefer a neutral taste or are sensitive to other compounds found in the plant.

It’s important to note that the effects of CBD can vary from person to person, and the best product for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. It’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.

MedicateOH was formed in 2019 by a team of journalists and advocates and operates as a fiscally-sponsored community impact project of Community Shares of Mid Ohio. About Ohio CBD Guy

Jason Friedman, owner of Ohio CBD Guy, reflects on starting the business in 2017. “My wife and I were struggling with significant stress, anxiety, and sleep issues. Additionally my wife was dealing with back, neck, and shoulder pain (likely caused by all of the stress). We were both taking prescription medications and self-medicating with alcohol and drugs. I had used marijuana since I was a young adult to help me with stress, anxiety, and depression, but as I got into my mid to late thirties I noticed it wasn’t helping as much and in some cases it was making my anxiety worse.”

So we immediately left the mall to open our first brick and mortar store right across the Roebling Bridge in Covington, KY where the hemp laws were progressive and favorable. Once Ohio legalized hemp in 2019 we opened our East Walnut Hills store and then our Montgomery store in 2020.”

Delta-8-THC is a chemical compound found within cannabis. Though the cannabinoid is only found in trace amounts, delta-8-THC can provide much-needed relief when it is isolated. When it comes to delta-8-THC’s relation to delta-9-THC, the molecular structure is only slightly different, but important.

Delta-8-THC is psychoactive, but the head high is less intense compared to delta-9-THC. Patients typically describe the high from delta-8-THC as a more mellow experience. The psychoactive effects associated with the cannabinoid do not induce anxiety. Researchers believe the high associated with delta-8-THC is more enjoyable compared to delta-9-THC. This fact could bring individuals who want to try this cannabinoid some reassurance that it will not be an intense experience.

Through research, delta-8-THC has been found to combine with CB1 receptors that are located mainly in the nervous system. This fact could explain the reason why delta-8-THC is excellent at reducing nausea and vomiting. In a study conducted in 1995, Dr. Raphael Mechoulan administered delta-8-THC to eight children battling different hematologic cancers. All children, ages ranging from three to thirteen years old, were exposed to chemotherapy and a variety of different drugs about eight months before the study. The results of the study showed that vomiting was stopped entirely for the patients.

The cannabinoid also had no known side-effects. This study shows the enormous potential delta-8-THC has for individuals who experience nausea and vomiting. Delta-8-THC has the potential to improve the quality of life for individuals trying to fight a variety of illnesses.
